Product Information

Rose-Hip Vital® Canine is an Australian-developed plant-based joint and inflammation supplement for dogs, built around the patented GOPO® compound isolated from rose hip (Rosa canina). GOPO® calms the inflammatory cells that flood into sore joints, breaking the cycle that drives progressive cartilage loss. Backed by 30+ scientific studies including 9 clinical trials specific to this formulation, available without prescription in 150g and 500g powder packs, suitable for dogs of all sizes and life stages.

Health Benefits

  • Interrupts the joint inflammation cycle: GOPO® stops the inflammatory cells driving joint damage from reaching the joint, addressing the upstream cause of osteoarthritis-related cartilage breakdown rather than only masking pain
  • Plant-derived, NSAID-sparing: calms inflammation through the immune system rather than blocking pain signals, so it's suitable for long-term daily use without the stomach and kidney side effects that come with chronic anti-inflammatory medication
  • Loading phase for faster onset: a higher loading dose for the first three weeks builds GOPO® up in the body quickly, with most dogs showing mobility improvement within 3 to 6 weeks
  • Useful for large-breed dogs prone to dysplasia: German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, Labradors, and Rottweilers carry elevated lifetime risk of hip dysplasia — starting GOPO from young adulthood is an evidence-backed way to support joints before problems start
  • Secondary skin and coat support: the natural antioxidants and vitamin C in rose hip powder support healthy skin and a glossy coat

Rose-Hip Vital Canine is a plant-based joint supplement for dogs, designed for long-term daily use without synthetic anti-inflammatories.

What It's Used For

  • Osteoarthritis and chronic joint inflammation: daily inflammation control for dogs diagnosed with osteoarthritis, including senior dogs showing morning stiffness, reluctance to jump, or slower stair use
  • Hip dysplasia management: long-term inflammation support for dogs with hip dysplasia, particularly large breeds such as German Shepherds and Golden Retrievers where dysplasia is more common
  • Post-surgical joint recovery: supportive nutrition during the rehabilitation phase after cruciate, hip, or elbow surgery, as advised by your vet
  • Alongside or instead of NSAIDs: a plant-derived option for dogs that can't tolerate non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or where your vet wants to reduce long-term NSAID dose
  • Working and sporting dogs: daily joint support for active dogs whose joints take repeated load — agility, working stock, gun dogs, and assistance dogs
  • Preventative use in at-risk breeds: starting GOPO® daily in young adulthood for breeds genetically prone to dysplasia or arthritis is an evidence-backed way to support joints before problems start

How to Use Rose-Hip Vital Canine

Mix the powder directly into your dog's food. Do not mix with hot food or hot liquid — heat degrades the GOPO® compound and reduces effectiveness. If your dog eats twice daily, split the daily dose across both meals. Most dogs find the powder palatable; for fussy eaters, introduce gradually starting with a pinch and increasing to the full dose over a week.

Body weightLoading dose (first 3 weeks)Maintenance dose (ongoing)
Under 7.5 kg1 scoop daily½ scoop daily
7.5 to 15 kg2 scoops daily1 scoop daily
15 to 30 kg3 scoops daily1.5 scoops daily
30 to 50 kg4 scoops daily2 scoops daily
Over 50 kg5 scoops daily2.5 scoops daily

1 scoop = 2.5 g. Expect measurable mobility improvement after 3 to 6 weeks on the loading dose. Drop to maintenance once you've seen the change. GOPO has no known side effects or overdosing risk — owners often comment that they're not noticing a difference at the maintenance dose and step back up; that's fine.

Why Dr Lisa Deering Recommends It

“Rose-Hip Vital Canine is made from 100% pure rose-hip powder, and that's what makes it a useful natural anti-inflammatory — it supports healthy joints and improves mobility without relying on synthetic ingredients. The antioxidant-rich formula targets oxidative stress, helping protect cartilage and connective tissue from long-term wear, which is the exact pattern you see in large or overweight breeds prone to joint deterioration. The powder format is genuinely practical too: bigger dogs need bigger daily doses, and mixing into meals is convenient at that scale. For senior dogs needing holistic support for joint comfort and recovery, this is one of the supplements I reach for.”

    Rosehip Vital

This product is quite expensive, especially for the dosage suggested for a large dog. It is too early to tell whether it will make a difference to our girl's mobility and enthusiasm on walks.

    Excellent must try

My dog has had arthritis for 2 years with vet-medicated treatments. I've been looking for additional supplements to add to her diet to help her discomfort and saw relief and an extra spring in her step after 3 days.

This plant-based powder is easy to administer—simply sprinkle it over your dog's regular food according to the weight-based dosage guidelines. Frequently Asked Questions

Most dogs show measurable mobility improvement with Rose-Hip Vital Canine within 3 to 6 weeks of starting the loading dose. The loading phase — a higher daily dose for the first 3 weeks — builds GOPO® tissue levels faster than starting at maintenance. If you don't see a change after 6 weeks at the loading dose, talk to your vet; the joint pain may be driven by something Rose-Hip Vital can't address on its own (structural injury, advanced cartilage loss, or co-existing inflammation).

Rose-Hip Vital Canine can be given alongside most prescription anti-inflammatories in dogs. GOPO® works through the immune system to calm joint inflammation, while NSAIDs block pain signals — the two are complementary rather than competing. Many vets use them together to allow a lower NSAID dose long-term. Always tell your vet about supplements you're adding so they can keep your full plan coordinated.

Rose-Hip Vital Canine is safe for dogs at all life stages, including puppies and seniors, with no known side effects or overdose risk. Puppies of large breeds prone to hip dysplasia (German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, Labradors) can start at the maintenance dose from young adulthood as preventative support. Senior dogs typically benefit most from starting with the loading-dose pattern.

Rose-Hip Vital Canine differs from 4CYTE and Sasha's Blend in how it works. Rose-Hip Vital uses GOPO®, a patented plant compound that calms the inflammatory cells driving joint damage. 4CYTE uses Epiitalis® (from green-lipped mussel) to support cartilage, while Sasha's Blend uses marine-derived chondroitin and glucosamine. The three target different parts of the joint problem, and many vets layer two together for dogs with established osteoarthritis.

If your dog won't eat Rose-Hip Vital powder, introduce it gradually — start with a pinch mixed into wet food, sardines, yoghurt, or a small amount of mince, and build to the full dose over a week. Do not mix with hot food or hot liquid; heat degrades the GOPO® compound. Most dogs accept the powder once it's part of their normal meal pattern. If your dog continues to refuse, talk to your vet about alternative joint supplement formats (capsules, treats).
