PAW Hepatoadvanced Cat & Small Dog (<15kg)
"This medicine has proved essential for helping to keep our 13 year old dachshund, Frankie, healthy. He had his spleen and thyroid removed 3 years ago and has been on this medicine ever since. He is still active, loves walks, loves hunting, and still acts like a puppy sometimes."

Product Information
PAW HepatoAdvanced® for Cat & Small Dog is a chewable tablet that combines three antioxidants — SAMe (S-Adenosyl-L-methionine), Vitamin E, and silybin phospholipids — to support liver detoxification and protect liver cells in cats and dogs under 15 kg.
Health Benefits
- Supports the liver's main antioxidant: SAMe is what the body uses to make glutathione, the liver's primary antioxidant. Topping up SAMe helps replace the glutathione that gets used up when the liver is under chronic stress
- Promotes liver detoxification: the three actives support how the liver processes toxins, medications, and waste from normal metabolism
- Protects against medication-induced liver stress: SAMe and silybin help reduce liver cell damage in pets on long-term medications that stress the liver (some anticonvulsants, NSAIDs, antifungals)
- Supports liver recovery from poisoning incidents: an add-on supplement in vet-managed cases of acute liver toxicity (paracetamol exposure in cats, xylitol in dogs)
- Supports brain health in senior dogs: SAMe has a secondary cognitive benefit, useful in older dogs showing early signs of cognitive decline
- Smaller tablet size in the new formulation: easier to give to cats and small dogs that resist larger tablets
PAW HepatoAdvanced is a vet-formulated liver support supplement available in our cat and dog health ranges, designed for cats and dogs under 15 kg needing antioxidant support when liver bloodwork results need attention.
What It's Used For
- Chronic liver disease management: antioxidant support for pets diagnosed with chronic liver disease, including elevated liver enzymes (ALT, ALP) on routine bloodwork. For background on the condition, see Dr Jane Miller's vet guides to liver disease in dogs and liver disease in cats
- Fatty liver disease support (cats): antioxidant support during recovery from hepatic lipidosis (feline fatty liver disease), alongside the assisted-feeding plan your vet sets
- Long-term medication support: liver protection for pets on chronic medications that stress the liver — anticonvulsants (phenobarbitone), some NSAIDs, certain antifungals, and chemotherapy agents
- Acute toxicity support: antioxidant support after vet-managed cases of acute liver toxicity (paracetamol exposure in cats, xylitol or mushroom ingestion in dogs)
- Senior cognitive support: the SAMe content provides a secondary brain-health benefit for older dogs showing early signs of cognitive decline

How to Give PAW HepatoAdvanced
Tablets are flavoured and can be given by hand, hidden in a small treat or food ball, or crushed into wet food if needed. Best given on an empty stomach for maximum absorption, but with food is acceptable if your pet refuses without.
| Body weight | Daily dose |
|---|---|
| 1 to 2.4 kg | 1 tablet |
| 2.5 to 9.9 kg | 2 tablets |
| 10 to 14.9 kg | 3 tablets |
Daily dose can be given as a single dose or split across two meals. Always confirm dosing with your vet, particularly for pets on concurrent medications.
Why Dr Jane Miller Recommends It
“Elevated liver enzymes on routine bloodwork are common in middle-aged and senior pets, and they often need ongoing antioxidant support even when the underlying cause is well-managed. PAW HepatoAdvanced combines the three actives I most reach for in liver support — SAMe to support glutathione, silybin to protect liver cells, and vitamin E as an antioxidant — at sensible doses for cats and small dogs. If your vet has flagged elevated ALT or ALP, this is a reasonable add-on alongside the diagnostic workup (always check with your vet before adding anything new to their routine).”

Frequently Asked Questions
PAW HepatoAdvanced does not require a vet prescription — it's a nutritional supplement available over the counter. That said, persistent liver enzyme elevations should always be investigated by your vet, as supplementation supports liver health but doesn't replace diagnosis of the underlying cause. For background on the underlying condition, see Dr Jane Miller's vet guide to liver disease in dogs or her companion guide for cats.
How long your pet stays on PAW HepatoAdvanced depends on the underlying reason for liver support. For pets on long-term medications that stress the liver (e.g. phenobarbitone for epilepsy), HepatoAdvanced is typically given for the duration of the medication course. For chronic liver disease, ongoing daily use is common. For acute toxicity recovery, your vet will usually recommend 4 to 12 weeks. Re-check bloodwork periodically to track the liver enzyme trend.
PAW HepatoAdvanced can be given alongside most other medications, including the ones that may be stressing the liver in the first place. The main precaution is combining it with behavioural medications (SSRIs, tricyclic antidepressants) where the SAMe content may add to their effect on serotonin levels. Tell your vet what other medications your pet is on so they can confirm the combination is safe.
PAW HepatoAdvanced differs from Denamarin and other SAMe-only liver supplements by combining three actives — SAMe, vitamin E, and silybin phospholipids — rather than SAMe alone. The silybin and vitamin E add antioxidant and liver-cell protection that complements the SAMe. Other products contain different combinations or different SAMe formulations; your vet can advise on the right pick for your pet's specific case.
PAW HepatoAdvanced tablets can be crushed and mixed into food, which works well for cats that won't accept whole tablets. The new formulation is smaller than the previous version, which helps for whole-tablet dosing, but crushing into food is fine when needed. Try mixing into a small amount of a strongly-flavoured food (tuna juice, fish-based wet food) to mask any flavour.
