Using the feeding table: To help your pet maintain an ideal body condition, monitor your pet's weight on a regular basis, making sure that their ribs are easily felt and their waist is visible when viewed from above. Maintaining an ideal body condition can impact your pet's lifelong health. Feeding for kittens: Kittens start to nibble solid food at 3 to 4 weeks of age. Body Condition System Underweight Cat: The cat's ribs, backbone and pelvic bone can be seen from a distance. Increase the amount you are feeding. After 2-3 weeks, review again. Adjust feeding until cat exhibits ideal body condition. Ideal Body Condition: The outline of the cat's ribs can be seen and felt with a minimal layer of overlaying fat. A clear waistline is visible when viewing from above and a tummy tuck noticeable when viewing from the side. Maintain current feeding plan. Overweight Cat: No waistline is visible when viewing from above. The belly is rounded when viewed from the side. Decrease the amount you are feeding. After 2-3 weeks, review again. Adjust feeding until cat exhibits ideal body condition.
