Product Information

Milpro Film-Coated Allwormer for Dogs (5 to 25 kg) is a small, liver-flavoured tablet from Virbac that covers all four major intestinal worms — roundworm, hookworm, whipworm, and tapeworm including hydatids — and, when given monthly, also prevents heartworm. Each tablet delivers 125 mg praziquantel plus 12.5 mg milbemycin oxime, with scoring for accurate dosing across the 5 to 25 kg weight band.

Health Benefits

  • Broad-spectrum intestinal worm coverage: a single tablet covers roundworm, hookworm, whipworm, and tapeworm (including hydatid tapeworm)
  • Heartworm prevention with monthly dosing: milbemycin oxime prevents heartworm disease when Milpro is given every month on schedule, providing an alternative to separate heartworm tablets or annual injections
  • Hydatid tapeworm coverage: praziquantel kills hydatid tapeworm, a parasite carried by dogs that can be transmitted to humans — particularly important for rural and farm dogs
  • Liver-flavoured film coating: high palatability means most dogs accept the tablet from the hand or hidden in a small treat, with no chewing or fuss
  • Scored for precise weight-based dosing: tablet can be halved cleanly to match body weight within the 5 to 25 kg band, reducing waste and over-dosing
  • Suitable from 2 weeks of age: appropriate for puppies as young as 2 weeks (and weighing at least 0.5 kg) when using the small dogs & puppies variant; the 5 to 25 kg dog variant is for dogs above 5 kg

Virbac Milpro is one of their most-prescribed all-in-one dog worming treatments in Australia — a comprehensive monthly approach for owners who want intestinal worm and heartworm coverage in a single small tablet.

What It's Used For

  • Routine intestinal worming: 3-monthly dosing for adult dogs to control roundworm, hookworm, and whipworm; more frequent for puppies and lactating bitches
  • Tapeworm and hydatid prevention: dogs that hunt, scavenge, eat raw meat or offal, or live in rural areas where hydatid tapeworm is common (sheep farming regions) need 6-weekly tapewormer coverage — Milpro covers this
  • Monthly heartworm prevention: a tablet-based monthly alternative to separate heartworm products or annual injections, useful in households that prefer one combined product
  • Puppy and nursing-mum worming: appropriate frequency varies — adult dogs every 3 months, puppies more frequently until 12 weeks then matching the adult schedule, pregnant dogs at mating and 10 days before giving birth
  • Replacing separate intestinal + heartworm products: single-product approach for owners managing multiple medications

How to Give Milpro Allwormer for Dogs (5 to 25 kg)

Give one tablet orally, with or without food. Most dogs accept the liver-flavoured tablet from the hand; for fussy dogs, hide in a small treat ball, piece of cheese, or mince. Weigh your dog before dosing to confirm tablet number.

Body weightDose (5–25 kg tablet)
5 to 12.5 kg½ tablet
12.5 to 25 kg1 tablet

Dosing frequency depends on what you're covering:

  • Heartworm prevention: every month, ideally on the same calendar day. Missed dose > 7 days late: contact your vet before restarting
  • Routine intestinal worming: every 3 months for adult dogs (monthly if heartworm prevention is also needed; Milpro covers both)
  • Hydatid tapeworm areas: every 6 weeks or as directed by your vet
  • Puppies: 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, 8 weeks, 12 weeks, then onto the adult schedule

Watch your dog for a few minutes after dosing to confirm the tablet was swallowed. If only part of the tablet was eaten, redose with a full dose as soon as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often you give Milpro Allwormer depends on what you're covering. For adult dogs needing intestinal worming only: every 3 months. For dogs in hydatid tapeworm areas or with raw-meat or offal access: every 6 weeks. For dogs also using Milpro to prevent heartworm: every month, since heartworm prevention needs continuous monthly dosing. The monthly dose covers all of the above in one tablet.

Milpro covers heartworm when given monthly — the active ingredient milbemycin oxime prevents heartworm infection at a monthly dosing schedule. If you're using Milpro purely as an intestinal wormer at 3-monthly intervals, you'll need a separate heartworm preventative. For dogs in heartworm-risk areas, your vet may recommend a heartworm test before starting Milpro, especially if the dog has been off heartworm prevention for any period. For more on combined parasite protocols, see Dr Jack's guide to the best dog parasite treatments and preventatives.

Milpro is an intestinal-worm-and-heartworm tablet that doesn't cover fleas, ticks, mites, or lice. NexGard Spectra and Simparica Trio are broader-spectrum monthly chewables that cover fleas, paralysis ticks, mites, intestinal worms, and heartworm in one product, but they typically don't cover tapeworm or hydatid. Many owners pair NexGard Spectra (for the broad-spectrum monthly cover) with a separate hydatid-effective tapewormer like Milpro every 6 weeks. Your vet can advise on the right combination for your dog's lifestyle and risk.

Milpro is safe to give to Border Collies and other Collie-related breeds (Shetland Sheepdog, Australian Shepherd) at the labelled dose. Studies with milbemycin oxime show the margin of safety in these breeds is narrower than in other breeds, but Milpro at the recommended dose is well tolerated. The important point is not to over-dose — if you miss a monthly dose, give the next dose as planned and don't double up.

If your dog spat out part of a Milpro tablet, redose with a full tablet as soon as possible if you can confirm the dose wasn't fully consumed. Watch for several minutes after dosing each time to confirm the tablet was swallowed. For fussy dogs, hide the tablet in a strongly-flavoured food (mince, cheese, peanut butter without xylitol) rather than free-handing it.
