Product Information

Royal Canin¨ Renal dry cat food is a complete dietetic feed for cats formulated to support renal function in the case of chronic renal insufficiency, through its restricted levels of phosphorus and high-quality proteins. Scientifically formulated to support renal function in cases of chronic kidney disease.Renal dry is also formulated to reduce oxalate stone formation through its low level of calcium and Vitamin D, and its urine alkalising properties.

Renal diets are recommended as soon as creatinine goes out of reference range (from CKD late stage 2), before the disease further progresses, and before inappetence develops. In case of food aversion, the cat can be switched to another renal option without transition. After commencing a Renal diet, in addition to periodic measurement of renal biomarkers, blood mineral level monitoring is also recommended. In cases of diet induced hypercalcaemia, the cat should be switched to Early Renal diet. Other mineral disturbances (eg. hypokalaemia) may require additional treatment. In most cases, Renal diets may be continued for the cats lifetime. It is recommended that a full health check be performed every 6 months.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dry diets should be stored in their original bags and resealed between feeding. Most small bags include a re-sealable zipper. If the bag does not have this feature, it’s recommended to keep the product in the original bag and store in a dry, airtight plastic or steel container with a lid.

For dry diets, palatability of the kibble remains at its best for one month after the bag is opened, however will be fine for up to two months so long as the bag is stored properly, in a cool, dry, airtight container.

Introducing your pet onto a new diet should done gradually over 5 - 7 days to avoid the possibility of digestive upset. We suggest:

Mix 25% of your new diet with 75% of your pet’s previous diet for 2 or 3 days

Then mix the two diets 50% and 50% for 2 or 3 days

Then mix 75% of the new diet with 25% of the previous diet for 2 or 3 days

You can now try feeding with 100% of the new diet.

This guide is also useful for an easy transition of the same product from current bag to new bag.
