Dr Jack Ayerbe OAM, BVSc, is a veterinarian with more than 55 years in practice and a founding partner of Vets Love Pets. He established Newtown Veterinary Practice in Geelong and has spent a lifetime making pet care easier to understand.

Education and experience

Dr Jack graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1969, then broadened his experience working in the United Kingdom and Ireland before returning home. In 1974 he established Newtown Veterinary Practice in Geelong, growing it into a clinic that today employs seven veterinarians. He sold the practice in 2012 but has never quite managed to leave, still consulting there regularly.

Over five decades in practice Jack has served on Animal Ethics Committees and trained new committee members, sat on the board of Qbiotics, and given his time as a school governor and city councillor. He is an honorary life member of the RSPCA and a long-time patron of breed societies in Victoria. Many Melbournians will remember him as the talkback veterinarian on 3AW, and his articles have appeared in newspapers and magazines across the country.

In recognition of his service to veterinary science and the community, Jack was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia.
