Frequently Asked Questions
10 litres of milk replacer can be made up by mixing 1.1 kilograms of powder with 9 litres of warm water. The water should be pre-boiled for sterilisation, then mixed with the powder in two parts. Once made, the milk can be stored in the fridge for one day, or frozen for up to two weeks.
Foals can begin to be weaned off milk replacer as early as three months old. This should be done gradually, and the foal should have access to fresh water at all times.
Foals who are getting enough milk from the mare will suckle frequently, and will often lie down and sleep after a feed. They will also grow and gain weight as expected. If this is not happening, or the foal seems restless, agitated, or uninterested in nursing, or is not gaining weight, it may be a sign that they are not getting enough milk.
20kg of Wombaroo Horse Milk Replacer will give you 182 litres of milk.
