Hill’s Pet Nutrition is voluntarily recalling select canned dog food products due to potentially elevated levels of vitamin D.
New Years Eve is a fun occasion for us but it can be a terrifying experience for our pets. The bright lights, loud noises and even the smell of fireworks can be very distressing to animals. Loud noises and summer storms can also be scary for pets. Pets can often sense changes in the weather before we know a storm is approaching. Unfortunately, when pets are frightened they can panic, try to escape and may even injure themselves.
Many pets suffer from noise phobias and this can be upsetting for your family as well as your pet. Pets react in different ways to fear, some tremble, vocalise or try to hide, others run around frantically trying to get away from the sounds and often hurt themselves in the process.
There are a few things you can do to keep your pet safe and comfortable. If you know your pet gets upset by fireworks, plan ahead and have a strategy in place before New Years Eve arrives. Please give your vet a call, they can help you and provide advice that is suitable for your individual pet. There are many things that can be done to help so please get in touch with them today.
Did you know that 2 out of 3 dog and cats over three years of age have dental disease? Like us, our pets accumulate plaque on their teeth. Plaque is the film you feel on your teeth in the morning when you wake up. Plaque turns into tartar (a hard yellow deposit on the teeth) and may cause gingivitis, a painful infection of the gums. Plaque contains lots of bacteria, this is what causes unpleasant doggy (or kitty!) breath. Bacteria from dirty teeth can also spread into the blood stream through the gums and damage our pet’s lungs, liver, kidney and heart.
